Ultimate Werewolf
Lycan
Team: Villager
Overview
In folklore, lycanthropy refers to the ability of a human to transform into a Werewolf. However, in the game Ultimate Werewolf, the role of the Lycan lacks this transformative ability. Rather, the Lycan simply appears to the Seer as a Werewolf, even though they are in fact an ordinary Villager. This makes it a challenging role to build trust with other players, as the Seer’s results faulty investigation.
The Lycan is included in the Ultimate Werewolf: Extreme edition.

Lycan's Guide
As the Lycan, you have no special abilities to use during the night phase. Essentially, you play as a plain Villager but on “hard mode” since the Seer will see you as a Werewolf and have no reason to trust you. However, here are some tips to help you overcome this challenge:
Be Upfront:
Itâs a bit of a risk, but better to reveal yourself as Lycan before the Seer discovers you as a Werewolf. While counterintuitive, openly sharing that you’re the Lycan makes you appear honest.
Weakness is Strength:
The Werewolves are less likely to target you for elimination if they know you’re the Lycan. Instead, they might encourage villagers to vote against you, in order to deflect attention from themselves. Use this to your advantage – players who aggressively try to cast suspicion on you or call for your elimination may secretly be a Werewolf. Leverage that insight against them, and build trust with the Villagers.
Not Guilty:
If the Seer accuses you of being a Werewolf, you’ll have an uphill battle to earn the Villagersâ trust. Try getting other roles with discovery abilities to help prove your innocence. Roles like the Paranormal Investigator and Aura Seer canât directly confirm youâre a villager, but it could help.

Moderating the Lycan is straightforward without any special night phase considerations. The key thing to remember is how this role interacts with the other investigative power roles:
Nightly Investigations:
The Seer – Sees the Lycan as a Werewolf
Paranormal Investigator – See the Lycan as a regular Villager
Aura Seer – Sees the Lycan as neither a plain Villager nor a plain Werewolf

Final Thoughts
The Lycan role poses quite a challenge, as the deck is stacked against you from the start. You must work hard to overcome suspicions if the Seer accuses you of being a wolf. However, an experienced player can find a thrill in turning the Lycanâs weakness into its strength. The Lycan is easy to play as, but newer players may struggle with it and dislike playing as the Lycan.
