Unmatched
Robin Hood
Overview
The legendary outlaw Robin Hood is a heroic figure originally depicted in English folklore starting as far back as the 1200s. He has since seen countless adaptations in books, comics, film, and TV. Some of the more famous adaptations are Disney’s 1973 animated film Robin Hood and Mel Brooks’ 1993 spoof Robin Hood: Men in Tights, and most recently he appeared in 2018’s Robin Hood portrayed by Taron Egerton.Â
Although Robin Hood is depicted as an outlaw, he is a brave and generous person who is famous for using his master archery skills to steal from the rich and give back to the poor. In Unmatched, Robin Hood utilizes his evasiveness to ambush his opponents and rob them blind.

Strategies and Tips
“Rob? That’s a naughty word, we never rob! Just sort of… borrow a bit form those who can afford it.” – Robin Hood
Robin Hood wins by conducting calculated ambush attacks. You want to keep the pressure on your opponent, tearing away at their defenses while being evasive and making sure they cannot reach you to counter-attack. His special ability is a huge asset since allowing you to move 2 spaces after an attack helps keep you from being left vulnerable. This also keeps your opponent on the move towards you, making it incredibly difficult for them to double attack you in a single turn. Robin Hood’s focus on avoiding damage rather than blocking it is a double-edged sword, meaning when it does come time for you to block damage, you will not be able to block for much.
Primary Strengths
Ranged combat
Movement
High value attacks
Primary Weaknesses
Low health
Few defensive options
Can reach exhaustion quickly
Tip #1: Overwhelm your opponent
“This will be my greatest performance.” – Robin Hood
Many of Robin Hood’s card effects require you to draw cards. These effects are great as it gives you a better chance of having the card you need when you need it. The disadvantage is that you are likely to run out of cards before your opponent, putting you in a fatigued state. Fighters in a fatigued state take 2 points of damage every time a card draw is required. With how oppressive Robin Hood is, however, you should manage to defeat your opponent before reaching exhaustion.
A Hunter’s Eye is an excellent card for keeping your opponent on the defensive. This attack card has a value of 5 with no ability. A defending Feint does nothing against this card, making it excellent to attack with at all times.
Piercing Shot is an attack with a value of 2 that lets you draw 2 cards after combat. This card is a great option when you want to play it safe. If this effect gets canceled then you haven’t lost much as there are other cards in your deck that allow you to draw. With an attack value of just 2 this is unlikely to do any damage, so you should see this as a card to use when poking at your opponent and trying to get them to waste defense cards.
Disarming Shot is an attack with a value of 4 that lets you draw a number of cards equal to the amount of damage dealt to the opposing fighter after combat. You can expect to reliably draw 1 or 2 cards from this, but if you manage more it is even better. The damage dealt does include over-damaging an opponent. This means if you defeat a 1hp sidekick and they didn’t defend, you draw 4 cards.
You want to ensure you are constantly pressuring your opponent while keeping a safe distance. Do not wait too long to take down opponents; continue attacking and force them to stay on the defensive.
Additionally, Steal From the Rich is a scheme that allows you to draw 1 card, then choose an opponent who then has the option to discard a card or let you draw 1 more card. This is a decent way to take your opponent off guard and force them to make an unexpected decision. Both outcomes are good for you.
Tip #2: Defensive Positioning
“Ah, but remember, faint hearts never won fair lady.” – Robin Hood
Your opponent will not stay on the defensive forever. Use your Outlaws as a barrier between you and your opponents. Robin Hood has little health and very few defensive options to choose from. With this in mind, you may find it best at times not to defend against attacks that target your Outlaws.
Defenders of Sherwood is a defense card with a value of 3 that allows you to draw 1 card after combat and return a defeated Outlaw to any space in Robin Hood’s zone. It is vital that you only defend with this card when you have a defeated Outlaw to bring back.
Your other best defensive options are the following:
Snark is a versatile card with a value of 3 that lets you draw 1 card after combat if your fighter is adjacent to the opposing fighter. This is a solid option to use as Robin Hood or an Outlaw. With that said, if you are using this to defend an Outlaw and your opponent attacks with a value of 4 or higher, then the effect will not activate since your fighter will no longer be on the board, so keep that in mind.Â
Wily Fighting is a versatile card with a value of 3 that lets you deal 1 damage to each opposing fighter adjacent to your fighter after combat. The same is true for this card as with Snark.Â
As previously stated, your best bet with Robin Hood is to keep as much distance between yourself and your opponent as possible and give them very few opportunities to attack you. These are all decent enough options, but with the low values you will be taking damage.
Tip #3: The Merry Men
“I was just wonderin’, are we good guys or bad guys? You know, I mean, uh? Our robbin’ the rich to feed the poor.”
– Little John
The key to victory for Robin Hood lies with the card Highway Robbery. The very existence of this card will make your opponent second guess their tactics when one of your Outlaws attack.Â
Highway Robbery is an Outlaw exclusive attack card with a value of 2 that immediately cancels all effects of your opponent’s card and ignores its defensive value. This allows you to deal 2 points of unblocked damage.Â
There are 4 copies of this card in your deck, so the total damage that can be dealt is 8. Keep in mind, this card can still be canceled by a Feint and other immediate card effects. While it would be disappointing for this effect to be canceled, it isn’t the worst thing for your opponent to waste all of their Feint cards against this. Your opponent may even decide not to defend if they do not have a Feint to counter with. Use this opportunity to attack with the following:
Regroup is a versatile card with a value of 1. Normally this card is simply a throwaway option, but in the hands of the Outlaws you are more likely to win combat, allowing you to draw 2 cards.
Ambush is an attack Robin Hood or the Outlaws can use, but we find it best used by the Outlaws. This card has a value of 2 and forces your opponent to discard 1 random card during combat and add its boost value to this card’s value. This card is especially effective against heroes who rely on card effects, as forcing them to discard will put them at a disadvantage.
Final Thoughts
Robin Hood cannot take many hits, but when played correctly your opponent should have a hard time simply reaching him to attack. He can be very annoying to play against as he is capable of producing ranged attacks at any given moment. He will go through is deck fast, but he is also capable of forcing discards out of your opponent which will make up for some of that loss. For people who like to keep their distance, strategize, and attack from afar, Robin Hood is an excellent option and addition to the Unmatched roster.
